Director of the Pacific Centre for Public Integrity Angie Heffernan was found by soldiers at a hotel in Sigatoka this morning. Soldiers dressed in civilian [clothes] turned up at the hotel and took Heffernan aside for questioning. Heffernan is wanted for allegedly making inciteful statements against the military and the interim regime. Soldiers also found Fiji Law Society vice president Tupou Draunidalo at the hotel and are questioning her. The other activist on the run is businesswoman Laisa Digitaki. She is being wanted for questioning for a statement on a website detailing her detention at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks last month. Digitaki claims she is now under United Nations protection dealing directly with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva. |
